The good name of the school must be upheld at all times, therefore anyone connected with the school must conduct himself in accordance with the accepted codes and rules.


The code of conduct exists to :

  • uphold the Catholic ethos of the school
  • protect all interested parties within the school
  • create a climate that is conducive to sound education * maintain the discipline within the school

At St Joseph’s R.C. School it is expected that everyone will act with courtesy, respect and consideration.

        1. SCHOOL DAY AND PUNCTUALITY

1.1  All learners need to be on time at the beginning of the school day and must remain at school for the full day.
1.2 Permission must be sought and obtained from the school authorities to leave at any other time.

2. VISITATION

All appointments need to be made through the correct channels and visitation of classrooms during the school day is only acceptable once permission is granted from the front office.

3. THE SECURITY OF THE SCHOOL AND PROPERTY

3.1  All the learners, teachers, parents and the community are under an obligation to protect the school’s property and  to report  
all damage.
3.2  Misuse of and damage to school property is unacceptable and shall be dealt with by the disciplinary committee.
3.3  No property may be loaned or removed from the premises without prior permission of the Principal or the School’s Governing Body.

4. MONIES BROUGHT TO SCHOOL

4.1 The school cannot be responsible for any loss of monies by the learners or for monies not handed in to a teacher or the bursar/secretary.
4.2 Large sums of cash sent to the school is not encouraged and parents are requested to deliver these monies to school personally. 


5. ABSENTEEISM

5.1 Notes for absenteeism are required and need to be sent to school. 


6. OUTINGS 


6.1 Indemnity forms need to be signed before any learner may go on an outing. 


7. RESPECT AND CONDUCT 

7.1 Any persons who… 
   7.1.1 steals others property; 
   7.1.2 has on their possession dangerous weapons or any other instrument that may endanger the safety of other learners, teachers and parents; 
   7.1.3 has in their possession, consumes or distributes drugs, alcohol or pornography; 
   7.1.4 is abusive, disrespectful and disruptive to any person at school; 
   7.1.5 intimidates and bullies; 
   7.1.6 behaves in an unacceptable manner;
   7.1.7 is involved in sexual misconduct or activity; 

…will be liable to appear before the school’s disciplinary committee and may be subject to the due process of the courts. 


8. DISCIPLINE 

8.1 No corporal punishment will be administered to any learner by any persons at st Joseph’s. 
8.2 Disciplinary measures will be taken according to the transgressions of the learners involved. 
8.3 Parents need to playa primary and important role in the disciplining of their children. 


9. SUSPENSION AND EXPULSION 

9.1 Transgressions of a serious nature will be dealt with in accordance with the correct procedures for suspension or expulsion as laid down by the School’s Act and Education Department. 


CONCLUSION 

The code of conduct for St Joseph’s Primary is to be maintained and put into practice for all. The code of conduct sets the minimum requirements for our school as we strive to reach for excellence.
